Artist Statement
As an artist, my mission is to provide a sanctuary for weary souls amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life. In a world inundated with noise and chaos, my work serves as a gentle reminder to pause, breathe, and immerse oneself in the beauty of tranquility. Drawing inspiration from serene landscapes, tranquil scenes, and soothing visuals, I seek to evoke a sense of calmness and inner harmony within my audience. I want to encourage them to look beyond the natural to see the divine, revealing His beauty to the world, touching the heart and bringing rest to the soul. Each piece is intended to allow viewers to find a sense of grounding in the present moment and to be an intersecting point where heaven touches earth.
Artist Bio
Denise Morton, an expressive impressionist artist, is a native of the twin island state of Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. Denise has always been drawn to creative pursuits and painted as a teenager and young adult. Art took a back seat to work and family for several years, but the drive to create could not be stifled. Her creative journey has taken her through fabric painting, interior decorating and floristry, attaining Certification as a Wedding Specialist from the Floral Design Institute. In her late 40’s she was drawn back into the world of art and was pleased to have found that while disciplines are physically different, the principles and elements were largely transferable to artwork. She is currently pursuing the Mastery Program at the Milan Art Institute.
Denise is inspired by the Caribbean’s stunning sunrises and sunsets, the soothing movement of the sea and the picturesque cloud and landscapes. She often says “I love texture and when it comes to colour, I don’t do subtle”. While her work is vivid, it also possesses an entrancing, almost dreamlike, quality. Through her work she wants to offer her audience a respite from the frustrations of every-day life and encourage them to take a moment find serenity, restoring balance through soothing imagery. Her work offers a sanctuary for the mind’s wanderlust, providing a momentary escape from the stresses of modern life, allowing viewers to reconnect with themselves and the divine.
Denise lives on the island of Trinidad with her husband and two children, both of whom are young adults. Her studio is at the back of her home where, in addition to paintings, she also creates wearable works of art that transcend mere accessories, using base metals (silver, copper, brass) and semi-precious stones. In the future Denise would like to explore the possibilities that could emerge by the of melding the two artforms.
